FAQ · IP LICENSING & CUSTOM CHARACTERS

Questions buyers ask about ip licensing & custom characters.

What is Showcraft IP licensing?+

We design and develop a custom recurring character — with backstory, voice, look, and personality — that your brand owns and can deploy across multiple events, seasons, and campaigns. Think of it as a brand mascot with a soul: a character your audience recognizes, builds affinity with, and looks forward to seeing again. Includes character bible, costume, performer training, and deployment playbook.

What's included in an IP licensing engagement?+

Character concept and design, written character bible (backstory, voice, do's and don'ts), costume build, performer casting and training, optional voice and motion-capture work for digital extensions, and a deployment playbook for your future activations. You own the IP at project close. For ongoing performance we'll continue to provide the performer and costume management under a separate deployment agreement.

How long does it take to develop a custom character?+

Discovery and character design 4-6 weeks, costume build 6-10 weeks, performer casting and training 2-3 weeks, with overlapping phases. Total 12-16 weeks from kickoff to first deployment. For brand launches with a hard date we can compress to 10 weeks with focused decision-making and reduced revision rounds.

Who owns the character once it's built?+

You do. At project close we transfer character design, brand assets, the character bible, and the costume to your ownership. Showcraft retains the right to be credited as the development partner. For ongoing deployment (where we continue providing the performer and managing costume maintenance) we operate under a separate agreement that doesn't affect your IP ownership.
